It will also help that this is just research.  I just want to open myself to learning more about men and relationships.  I have no dating agenda.  Okay… well, maybe if things go well during lunch it may lead to dating as a result of getting to know the guy, but that won’t be the initial intention.

So this Thursday I’m going to a happy hour.  A perfect opportunity get this project launched.  Wow, my palms are sweating already!

I went to my usual breakfast hangout, accompanied by my usual date — a good book (“Retribution” by my friend, Jean Stein).  It was relaxing and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.   As I was leaving, the cashier asked how many books I read each week.  It wasn’t the question that stopped me, it was the tone of her voice.

Her eyes shifted uncomfortably away from my gaze. She wasn’t really asking about the books.  It bothered her that I often had breakfast there alone.  She needed to blame my aloneness on something.  The books gave her an explanation into what she saw as bizarre behavior — choosing to be alone.
