Everything that moved was full for days with cancelled flights everywhere due to weather. It now was so bad I thought I’d have to burn some sick-time because I couldn’t get back to my domicile after my few days off. So if I couldn’t get back it would require that sick call.
As it turns out a delta airlines had a smoker to anywhere and it had an empty seat in the cockpit (way before 9-11).
It was a full boat / ship. I had escaped Norfork. Or so I thought.
As we taxied out the first officer and captain were still getting to know me. The first officer asked if I had family in the airline biz. I told him my dad was a former eastern airlines pilot. I could feel the aircraft slow down due to brakes being applied by the captain .. I thought oh biy this isn’t good.
The first officer asked me his name as he pulled out the master airline scab list. I told him and then asked for my company id. I complied.
After a review of the master scab list (thank goodness my dad didn’t cross the line) and his name wasn’t on it .. the first officer asked the captain if he would like the second engine start checklist. The captain said yes. That could have been bad.
Some time later I asked what they would’ve done if my dad had been on the list. They said they would’ve taxied back to the gate and dropped me off.
