The Origins of Wordle

Wordle was created in 2021 by software engineer Josh Wardle. Initially designed as a private game for his partner, it quickly expanded into a public sensation. The rules were straightforward: players had six attempts to guess a secret five-letter word. With each guess, letters would change color to provide hints:

Green if the letter was in the correct position.

Yellow if the letter was in the word but in the wrong position.

Gray if the letter was not in the word at all.

This simple feedback loop provided just enough challenge to keep players engaged while remaining accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background.

By late 2021 and early 2022, Wordle had become a viral hit. Social media platforms like Twitter were flooded with players sharing their results using the signature green, yellow, and gray emoji grid. The format became a universal language among players worldwide.
